By Curtis Duncan Two-out hits in baseball are always a coveted commodity no matter when they come in a game. Pattonville was fortunate to get a pair of them early when needed, Friday afternoon, against Fort Zumwalt South. Pat Condren and David Winslow delivered consecutive run-scoring doubles in the first inning, propelling the Pirates to an 8-2 triumph over the Bulldogs at Fort Zumwalt South. The victory moved Pattonville to 3-0 to start the season. Fort Zumwalt South dropped to 0-3. "Pat Condren had a big two-out double for us in the first that drove in a couple of runs and made it 4-0, and then David Winslow followed that up with a two-out double to drive Pat Condren home," said Pattonville coach Mark Hahn. "That got us up to a 5-0 lead, and we were able to hold on from there." A big first inning was just what Pattonville needed to get on top of a Bulldog team that has struggled offensively, scoring just three runs in the first two games. Pattonville jumped on Fort Zumwalt South with five runs in the top of the first inning. John Jones singled, Mike Lehmann walked, and Jamarr Becks singled to load the bases. Jones then scored from third as Jim Scott was hit by a pitch from Fort Zumwalt South pitcher Jeff Simpson, making it 1-0. Lehmann then scored from third base on a wild pitch for a 2-0 Pattonville lead. Lehman scored three runs on the day for Pattonville.
