By Curtis Duncan Just two days after absorbing a 9-1 defeat at Granite City, the CBC baseball Cadets rebounded with a big performance at the plate and on the mound on Friday. A.J. Otto ripped a pair of home runs, and CBC struck for four runs in the first, fourth, and fifth innings, cruising to a 12-2 victory over Hazelwood East in a five-inning first-round game of the third annual Ballwin Invitational Tournament at Ballwin Athletic Association. CBC improved to 9-5 on the season. Hazelwood East slipped to 5-3. "We hit the ball really well today," said CBC coach Scott Brown. "…A.J. Otto, who has really been swinging a hot bat lately, hit two home runs today, and that gives him three in the last two games. I think the guys were really sort of upset about the other day, the way they played against Granite City; [they were] out to prove a little bit today, and they swung the bats well." The Cadets jumped on the Spartans in the bottom of the first inning with a four-run rally keyed by a two-run double from Adam Mason, and Otto cracked a solo homer, putting the Cadets in front, 4-0. Hazelwood East scored a pair of runs in the top of the third, cutting the lead to 4-2, as Adam Perry drove in one of the runs with an RBI-single.
