CBC Takes Out Frustrations
On Hazelwood East

By Curtis Duncan
Just two days after absorbing a 9-1 defeat at Granite City, the CBC baseball Cadets rebounded with a big performance at the plate and on the mound on Friday.  A.J. Otto ripped a pair of home runs, and CBC struck for four runs in the first, fourth, and fifth innings, cruising to a 12-2 victory over Hazelwood East in a five-inning first-round game of the third annual Ballwin Invitational Tournament at Ballwin Athletic Association.
CBC improved to 9-5 on the season. Hazelwood East slipped to 5-3.
"We hit the ball really well today," said CBC coach Scott Brown.  "…A.J. Otto, who has really been swinging a hot bat lately, hit two home runs today, and that gives him three in the last two games.  I think the guys were really sort of upset about the other day, the way they played against Granite City; [they were] out to prove a little bit today, and they swung the bats well."
The Cadets jumped on the Spartans in the bottom of the first inning with a four-run rally keyed by a two-run double from Adam Mason,  and Otto cracked a solo homer, putting the Cadets in front, 4-0.
Hazelwood East scored a pair of runs in the top of the third, cutting the lead to 4-2, as Adam Perry drove in one of the runs with an RBI-single.

Brueggemann doubled home a pair of runs, and Ryan Rallo hit a two-run homer, pushing the edge to 8-2.
The Cadets closed out their scoring in the bottom of the fifth when Otto jacked his second homer of the day, a two-run shot that keyed another four-run rally, putting the game on ice.
Dan Schuerman did his part in the pitching department, going the distance for the win.
"Once again, Dan Schuerman was the big pitcher for us and really came through in the clutch for us," said Brown.  "He broke us out of our one-game losing streak."
All in all, it was a pleasant start for the Cadets in the Ballwin Tournament.
"It is a nice way to come back after losing the other day,…to start the tournament off with a win," said Brown.
