Pacific Rolls Past Hillsboro In District 2 Semifinal

By Curtis Duncan
The Pacific Indians know how to hit and how to score early when it counts.  Pacific scored big in the first and third innings on its way to a 9-2 victory over Hillsboro in a Class 2A, District 2 semifinal game at Eureka on Wednesday.
The win vaulted Pacific (15-6) into a berth in the district championship game, Thursday, against Eureka at Eureka.  Game time is 4:15 p.m.
A 10-hit effort was just the thing the Indians needed to put Hawks of Hillsboro on their heels from the start.  Pacific came out hacking away in the bottom of the first inning as the Indians plated four runs in grabbing a fast 4-0 edge and chasing starter and eventual loser Joe Boyer from the game.
A run in the last of the second pushed the lead to 5-0.  But it was another big inning in the bottom of the third that sent the Hawks reeling.  The Indians hung another four runs on Hillsboro reliever James Yochim, increasing the insurmountable margin to 9-0.

gled home a pair of runs, Marcus Bond homered, and Ronnie Ray cracked a two-run homer to spearhead the Indians' hitting assault.  Gilman took care of the pitching duties for the Indians with a complete game win.  He struck out 11 of 29 batters faced.
Mark Parker paced the Hillsboro offense with two hits in four trips to the plate.
Hillsboro ended its season at 13-14.
