By Curtis Duncan A clutch RBI-single by Nathan Zeller in the bottom of the sixth inning and some strong pitching down the stretch from Travis Zeller lifted Roxana to a 5-4 nonconference victory, Wednesday afternoon, at Roxana High School. Roxana improved to 4-1 overall with the win. Jerseyville fell to 6-3 with the setback. "I thought we played extremely well," said Roxana coach Joe Huff. "We got some timely hitting, and we got a big pitching performance out of Josh Carter, who started and did an excellent job for us. So, I'm real happy with…the way things went for us today." Trailing 4-3, the Shells made their move in the bottom of the sixth inning. After scoring a run off of an error to tie it, Roxana took the lead for good on Nathan Zeller's run-scoring single, which plated Robert Rahn, putting the Shells on top, 5-4. Rahn, a 6'0", 180-pound freshman catcher went three for four at the plate and also made a big defensive stop in the bottom of the seventh, throwing out a Jerseyville runner at second base with one out in the frame, robbing the Panthers of the potential game-tying run. "They were stealing, and he gets the ball in the dirt,…throws a BB down there, and throws the kid out stealing for their second out," said Huff. "He's a really strong kid for a freshman, and he's really doing a good job back there for us." Roxana got on top early, scoring a run in the bottom of the first, as Derek Jarman was hit by a pitch and went to first base. Drew Huddleston then doubled to left center field, chasing home Jarman, and the Shells were up, 1-0. Jerseyville struck back with a pair of runs in the top of the second.
