Fourth Inning Outburst Lifts Seckman

By Curtis Duncan
The Seckman Jaguars made their presence felt on the opening day of the Ballwin Tournament.  Behind the strength of solid hitting, pitching, and defense, the Jaguars rolled past Kirkwood for a 14-7 victory in a first round tournament game on Friday at Ballwin Athletic Association.
Seckman rose back over the .500 mark with the win to 5-4.  Kirkwood fell to 7-3 overall.
"We played a very good ballgame tonight," said Seckman coach Kevin Bowers.  "We hit the ball well, and after the first inning, we played pretty good defense and had good pitching performances."
Shortstop Jason Meyer swung a big stick at the plate for the Jaguars, going three for three and scoring two runs.  Catcher Craig Coleman and David Etter also figured in the Seckman offense with two hits each.
Matt Green was the winning pitcher for the Jaguars.  Emil Porter took the loss for Kirkwood.
Kirkwood grabbed the early lead, as the Pioneers scored three runs in the top of the first to go ahead, 3-0.  The Jaguars came roaring back in the bot

tom of the first inning, though, as Jeff Luksza ripped a three-run double, sparking a five-run surge for a 5-3 lead.
Kirkwood cut the lead to 5-4 with a run in the top of the second inning.
Seckman got that run back in the bottom of the third when Etter scored on a wild pitch, making it 6-4.  The Jaguars then broke it open with seven runs in the last of the fourth, earning a comfortable 13-4 cushion.
Seckman will face DeSmet and Pattonville in tournament action on Saturday at Ballwin.
