Mt. Olive Snaps Skid With 12-0 Win Over Metro East Lutheran

By Curtis Duncan
An 11-run fourth inning pushed Mount Olive to a 12-0 victory over Metro East Lutheran, Wednesday, in a non-conference game at Metro East.
The win was critical for Mount Olive, as it snapped a five-game losing streak for the Wildcats, who improved to 3-7 on the season.  Metro East fell to 3-11 with the setback.
"We had a five-game losing streak, and we had played well at times, but we really needed a [well-pitched] game, and [I needed] Phil Kaduk…to be the stopper for us, and he was today," said Mount Olive coach Terry Marietta.
Kaduk, who has given the Wildcats a quality start each time out, was superb on the mound, fanning eight and walking just one in five innings for the win.
While Kaduk throttled the Knights' batting order, the Wildcats' bats were rattling and cracking.  Mount Olive broke on top with a run in the top of the first inning.  Matt Hall led off with a single, stole second, and then scored on Mike Zippay's run-scoring double, making it 1-0.
Three innings later, the Wildcats broke it open with an 11-run outburst in the top of the fourth.
Jon Buzick, Kaduk, and Eric Pastrovich struck for key hits in the inning.
Pastrovich delivered the big hit with a bases-clearing double to center field, chasing home three runs, capping the rally with a 12-0 lead.

Buzick doubled home a run and scored twice, and Kaduk drove home a pair of runs off a bullet line drive that glanced off the second baseman's glove for a double.
Kaduk went two for four with a double and a run scored.
Getting some timely hitting for the first time in a few weeks was a welcome relief for the Wildcats, as Mount Olive scored its runs off eight hits and two Metro East fielding errors.
"In the last few games, we really hadn't been hitting anything, " said Marietta.  "We really needed a game where we had a couple of big hits, and hopefully a couple of the guys getting hits today will get [us] back on the right track."
