By Jorie Lewis Nicole Peters knows just how to start off her senior season. Pitching for the Crusaders of St. Dominic, Peters held the Pioneers from Duchesne to one hit over four innings and no runs. The Crusaders cruised to a 16-0 victory on Monday afternoon at McNair Park in St. Charles. Seeming to pick up right where she left off last year, when she pitched 125 innings in 17 games with a 1.12 earned run average and 67 strikeouts, Peters picked up the complete game shutout victory. Helping her own cause, she also came through with the Crusaders' only extra-base hit of the day, hammering a two-run homer in the fourth inning. While Peters helped her cause, Duchesne definitely did not help its situation. The ball and the Duchesne gloves never seemed to come together just right, as the Pioneers committed five errors on the day. Although there is room for improvement, Crusaders coach Steve Pfund was happy with his team's performance. "I thought for the first game of the season, we did very well," Pfund said. "We are, by no means, [in] mid-season form yet, but we made no field errors, which was one of our goals. We wanted to play good defense today." The Crusader hitters tagged Jessica Kasten for ten hits; except for Peters' home run, though, the St. Dominic hits were singles. The Crusader hitters
