Webster Continues Its Winning Ways

By Drew Domjan
The recipe is simple.  Take momentum, add a liberal dash of teamwork,
and enjoy.  Stirred with considerable hitting and formidable pitching, Webster Groves baked a stellar cake from these ingredients in notching its second win of the season on Thursday; in five innings, the Webster Groves Stateswomen glided to a 12-2
victory over the Rosati-Kain Kougars.
Ann Fitzpatrick led the Stateswomen's hitting with three hits on the day.  Rebecca Dunn and Elissa Ralls chipped in three RBIs each.
Pitcher Stephanie Murray held the Kougars to just two hits for
the win.  According to Webster Groves coach Ben Averbuch, Murray
has made amazing progress.
"[Murray] has...grown by leaps and bounds," Averbuch said.  "She
[has] come on like gangbusters this year and done a great job."
Angela Raciti allowed 12 hits and took the loss for Rosati.
The win ups Webster's seasonal record to 2-0, while Rosati-Kain
starts the season at 0-1.  If Webster's winning trend continues, the  team will likely surpass last year's 5-15 record.
"We feel we're turning it around," said Averbuch.  "The team's coming

together [and] working together. [The team's] attitude is super."
According to Webster shortstop Beth Perez, Thursday's win was a collaborative effort.
"...We all came together as a team to pull out the win," Perez said.
Webster Groves plays its first home game of the season on Friday
afternoon against Mehlville.  Game time is 4:15.  Rosati-Kain will also be at home on Friday for a 4 p.m. contest with Riverview Gardens.
